How Do We “Do” Church Now?

Updated: Jul 3

Follow Him. Follow the Rest.

Reframing Community, Covenant, and the Call to Obedience

It’s a question I’ve received more than once. And recently, a reader asked it in a way that captured what so many are feeling:

“How do we ‘do church’ now that we’ve started going on Saturday instead of Sunday?”

There’s a tension here—one I understand well. For many, this journey into honoring Shabbat feels like a beautiful homecoming... and also, a heartbreaking goodbye. Not because we’ve lost our faith—but because we’ve lost the familiar structure we once knew.

So, what do we do?

Short answer: We haven’t walked away from the Body—we’re just learning to walk in alignment with the Head.

🕊️ Church Is Not a Place—It’s a People

We don’t see “church” as a building or a program anymore. It’s not about steeples or Sunday bulletins or coffee hour in the fellowship hall.

Those things may be meaningful to many—but they’re not the substance.

Church, at its core, is not doing. It’s belonging. It’s covenant. It’s alignment with the King.

Yeshua said, “These are My disciples—those who obey My commandments.”(John 14:15; 1 John 2:3–6)

At the time He spoke those words, the only “Bible” available was the Torah and the Prophets. That was the foundation He was pointing them to—not a new religion, but a return to what had already been spoken.

✨ When Obedience Shifts Our Rhythm

So what happens when God opens your eyes?

You’re given a choice. And obedience—while costly—always leads to life.

As I recently shared with a reader in the comments:

“Your words reflect exactly what this space is meant to hold—a place for those who are hearing the invitation of the Spirit to go deeper, to remember the ancient paths, and to respond with a ‘yes.’ You’re absolutely right: once God opens our eyes, we do have a choice. And while obedience can feel costly, disobedience costs far more. We don’t see ‘church’ as a doing, or even as a physical location. Church is not a building we go to—it’s a people we belong to. It’s a posture of worship, covenant, and alignment with God’s ways. For us, Daniel and I belong to a faithful community, though it’s not your typical brick-and-mortar expression. It’s more like family—a gathered remnant walking together in rhythm with the King.”

🛤️ You’re Not Alone in the In-Between

If you feel like you’re in a kind of limbo—Longing for the familiar, but being drawn to something more ancient and true—You’re not alone.

Many are waking up. Many are hearing the same invitation.

And I promise you this:

He will honor your yes. Just begin where you are. Listen for His voice. Follow the peace.

There are good and safe voices out there. There is a remnant. And you will find your people in His timing, in His way.

Until then, walk it out with Him. Shabbat by Shabbat. Step by step.

And remember:

You haven’t left the Body. You’re just learning how to move in rhythm with the Head.

🔗 📚 A Few Resources for the Journey

I remember so clearly standing in your shoes—Wondering how to step into the new revelations I was encountering. How do we “do” church now? What does this walk look like when old rhythms no longer fit?

If you’re in that space right now, may I gently encourage you:

Before you rush into any new doing, pursue just being with Him. Intimacy will shape everything you do.

As you walk this path, here are a few ministries and resources that have spoken deeply into our lives—each offering insight, teaching, and encouragement for the journey:

As Yeshua Himself promises:

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”Matthew 7:7–8 AMP

We’re honored to walk beside you in this season. And we look forward to celebrating every step of faith you take.

Shalom,

Beth & Daniel

We are in this spot now and have been for a while. A sudden interstate move distracted but did not remove us from this awakening. We have not started at a new church yet because we are working through this and considering what and how we need to change. A leader in our company shared a 7 day rhythm reset devotional the actually focuses on this so we are trying to do that…it sounds like exactly what my soul needs…rest and it is keeping us focused on this same shift…coincidence? I no longer believe in coincidences…this is a 2nd confirmation from Yeshuah for what He wants us to grow in. In my experience, when it is from Yeshuah…
